Collection: HORSES
Michael Muller spent a decade on a global odyssey to capture the mystique of the horse — not only through images, but through an unfiltered exploration of the profound bond between humans and these powerful creatures. His journey spanned continents: from the rugged badlands of Mongolia to the towering peaks of Patagonia, from the war-scarred landscapes of Afghanistan to the medieval castles and black sand beaches of windswept shores of Ireland and Iceland.
Along the way, he encountered an extraordinary cross-section of humanity — horse whisperers, indigenous cowboys, and world leaders — each bound by an unspoken connection to the horse. What began as a photographic pursuit evolved into something far deeper: a quest to reveal the raw magnetism and emotional intelligence of these animals. The result is a groundbreaking book, published by the world-renowned art house TASCHEN.
For every step of this decade-long adventure, a camera was rolling—capturing the passion, perseverance, and artistry behind it all for a documentary film. What started as a chronicle of daring expeditions gradually transformed into something far more intimate — a portrait of Michael’s inner life; his journey of self discovery and his relentless effort to heal the trauma of a childhood and find himself. “Blood sweat and tears” doesn't even begin describe what went into this project. What was captured, by sheer accident, was Michael pouring out his soul - with no choice but to face his demons or walk away.
“If this project wasn't there, if the subjects had not been these unconditionally loving creatures that saw through the mask and saw me and gave me the space I needed to finally see myself as well for the first time, then I don’t believe I would’ve been able to heal as deeply and quickly as I have.”
That search first led him to equine therapy at specialized treatment centers. From there, it expanded across borders and cultures as he sought out master horsemen around the world — individuals who deeply understood the emotional intelligence and therapeutic power of horses and their unique capacity to reflect, regulate, and restore the human spirit.
At its heart, the documentary is a story of human struggle — abuse, addiction, heartbreak — and the long, but always forgiving road toward evolution, redemption and transformation.
Along Michael’s path, the film captures a visceral cross-section of the equestrian world, revealing its raw beauty, wisdom, and emotional depth. Because when you follow what truly drives you, you create something timeless.
