Collection: KOBE BRYANT

1978-2020

I had the honor of documenting Kobe Bryant over the course of several years. I, like everyone else, for years watched him grow up under a microscope and become a man in the NBA.  The highs and the lows shaped him into the man he became and for almost a decade I got to know a quiet, yet very funny man who carried a veil of humility.  I am pretty sure that not many people knew that Kobe had a huge fascination with sharks, especially Great Whites! He told me he had a shark in his locker to fire himself up before games.  I never asked if it was one of the prints I had given him, to me it didn't matter, for the fact he loved sharks that much was really all that did matter.

The images in this series range from one of the first shoots I did with him in 2010 for ESPN to the last which was his LAST campaign for Nike as LAKER. Kobe would pass soon after this shoot and Time Magazine asked me if they could use an image of mine for their cover. This is always a tough spot to be in when people pass and my images are requested, but there is one thing that I know to be true and that is that Kobe knew marketing and the power of image and if he had the chance, would have told me to make sure I give them the most iconic images I had as a swan song, which is

Exactly what I did.
